Why design consultations are important in flooring

"Design from the floor up!" That’s the battle cry of the designer. Flooring sets the foundation for the tone of an entire room. The floor has the largest square footage, so it is visible to everyone. It's also the greatest expression of your style.

At Special Effects Flooring we have an in-house design team. Our highly experienced designers can walk you through the entire process of this somewhat overwhelming experience. They provide inspiration, assist in brainstorming themes, and will give you expert advice on making the wisest decisions. If you're looking for a design consultation in Clayton, NC. feel free to call or visit us.

The consultation

You'll be asked a lot of questions: the size of family, pets, residents with mobility devices, goals, challenges, etc. The more you share, the more they’ll know and can better help you. Let the designer understand your vision. Bring fabric samples, color chips, and photos from design pages.

Some common design/floor questions

  • Should I paint the room before or after I install the flooring?
This might very well be the most-asked question, and there are two schools of thought. If you paint first, you don't need to worry about splatters on your new floor. On the other hand, if you install the floor first you won't have to worry about scratches and dings on a newly painted surface; remember, the installers will be coming in with rolls of materials and tools. If you choose the latter, just be sure the floor is covered well with painter's plastic, tarp with plenty of tape around the edges.

  • Do I need to perfectly match everything?
No, just be sure it coordinates well.

  • Should I use the same carpet throughout the house?
No, because every room has its challenges and priorities.

  • How do I save money?
Make wise financial decisions and to quote a cliche, "Don't shop for price, but quality." Often, the lowest price creates more headaches in the long-term, because corners were cut. That results in repairs, replacements, delays, early deterioration, and more. The question isn't whether or not you can afford it but, rather, it is: "Can you afford poor quality?"
