Which is better, a natural or synthetic fiber?

This is one of the most asked questions, but both are good and your selection ultimately depends upon your style and needs. Here's a rundown of the five most common ones: Wool is natural. It is fluffy, beautiful and the most expensive. It's white but has natural oils that inherently repel dirt so no need to be worried about stains.

The rest are synthetics. Talk to your carpet retailer in detail about budget, needs, and style. He or she will guide you to the best one for you.

  • Nylon is the strongest and most well-known. It has wonderful resiliency, meaning that it springs back and keeps its shape. It always comes with a stain protectant.

  • Polyester is getting stronger all the time, thanks to advances in technology. It is hydrophobic, which means it won’t absorb, so there’s excellent stain resistance.

  • Olefin is economical. It’s most often associated with the Berber style which uses the strongest part of the fiber in construction. That means it’s durable. It also has good stain resistance.

  • Triexta is strong. It was developed by the same people who introduced us to nylon. This fiber has permanent stain resistance built into the fiber. There will never be a need to reapply.

Can I have carpet if I have pets or allergies?

Yes! Technology has given us rugs with extra durability and stain resistance. As for allergies and asthma, rugs improve indoor air quality by trapping pollutants in the fibers where they remain until it's deep cleaned. This has been shown time and again by scientific studies.

Why should I have a professional installation?

Installation affects appearance, performance, and longevity of carpet floors. When the subfloor is damaged, the rug will have rolls, bumps, and wrinkles. It also needs to be cut and shaped, seamed, and stretched properly. Manufacturer warranties have installation instructions that, when not followed, will void the protection.
